Effect of hydrogenation on magnetic properties of R2Fe16M single crystals (R = Ce, Lu, and Y; M = Fe, Mn, Si, Cr, and Ni)

  • Original language description

In this work, the influence of hydrogen on magnetic properties of R2(Fe,M)17 (R = Ce, Lu, Y; M= Fe, Mn, Si, Cr, Ni) compounds is reported. Special attention is given to the compounds with Ce, because Ce ions might be in a mixed-valence state. Measurements of the temperature dependence of magnetization in weak magnetic fields were performed for Ce2Fe16MHy compounds and compared with those for Lu2Fe16MHy and Y2Fe16MHy (Fe, M = Mn, Si, Cr, Ni, 0 y 2). For the first time, investigation of the parent and hydrogenated compounds was carried out on single-crystalline samples. This allowed us to obtain reliable data on the peculiarities of the temperature dependence of magnetization and draw conclusions (using the neutron diffraction data) on magnetic states affected by hydrogen intrusion.
