Six new salicylatocopper(II) complexes with formula [Cu(3-Mesal)2(bzim)2] 1, [Cu(4-Mesal)2(bzim)2] 2, [Cu(5-Mesal)2(bzim)2] 3a, 3b, [Cu(4-MeOsal)2(bzim)2] 4 and [Cu(5-MeOsal)2(bzim)2] 5 (where 3-Mesal = 3-methylsalicylate, 4-Mesal = 4-methylsalicylate, 5-Mesal = 5-methylsalicylate, 4-MeOsal = 4-methoxylsalicylate, 5-MeOsal = 5-methoxylsalicylate and bzim = benzimidazole) have been synthesized and characterised by elemental analysis, IR, UV–Vis and EPR spectroscopy. Crystal structures were determined by X-ray powder diffraction for 1, 2, 3b, 4, 5 and single crystal diffra ction for 1, 3a.
