Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D-TMDs) have attracted significant research interest due to their exceptional physical and optical properties. Among them, tungsten disulfide (WS2) stands out for its promising potential in applications such as (opto)-electronics and sensing devices. Meanwhile, diamond — a prototypical three-dimensional (3D) material — offers distinguished thermal, mechanical, and chemical stability. Integrating these two distinct material classes into WS2/diamond heterostructures presents exciting opportunities for advanced device architectures, enabling features such as bandgap tuning, improved charge transport, and enhanced optical functionalities. In this study, we successfully fabricate heterostructures composed of few-layer WS2 films and polycrystalline diamond with different morphologies. The fabricated heterostructures were preliminarily evaluated for gas sensing performance.
