The EP apparatus, though simple in construction, is controlled by and contingent on the highly complex electrochemical phenomena that take place between the electrolyte solution, the electrical charge passed through, and the surface chemistry of the workpiece. The device itself is composed of a power supply capable of providing a steady range of voltage and current settings, the reaction vessel, which contains the optimal electrolyte solution, and the hot plate or thermocouple, which allows for temperature control and magnetic stirring to be applied. The figure below contains a basic schematic for the device's configuration.
