Influence of Interfaces in Multi-scale Modeling of Woven Composites
Original language description
As suggested by the title the general goal of this contribution is to address an effect of imperfect bonding on the response of woven composites usually supplied in the form of complex multilayered structures. It is well known that the essential part inthe modeling of composites is the formulation of representative volume element (RVE). The periodic nature of a fiber-tows arrangement reduces the basic geometrical model on meso-scale to a certain periodic unit cell. Standard homogenization technique based on periodic fields is implemented within the framework of the finite element method and extended to account for the imperfect bonding along the fiber-tow interfaces. To that end, the interfacial shear response is governed by the generalized Leonov model, while the plastic-fracturing behavior is assumed to describe the tensile failure. At the end two basic examples are given. Both are devoted to the influence of interface behavior on the homogenized material properties on meso-scale.
