Polycycloolefine - New Polymer for Biological Applications

  • Original language description

The research in material and biomaterial engineering, as well as the clinical practice, will be more and more aimed at new materials and their hybridisation by a live connective tissue. The presented work is focused on the design of an implant stem thatconsists of a load-bearing metallic core and a composite lamellas C/COC. The modulus of elasticity in the surface composite lamella (having COC-matrix) is almost identical to the modulus of elasticity of the femur corticalis. In Presented results are focused on the mechanical properties of the cycloolefin copolymers, i.e. the tensile impact strength, the tensile strength, the elongations at break, the Young´s modulus and creep compliance. Mechanical characteristics obtained together with verified biocompatibility of the COC-material seem to be promising for considered applications in human skelet.
