At present, ecological damage caused by fire is so severe that it cannot be tolerated by anybody. Also with the rising fear of terrorism, fire protection in buildings is at the forefront of human interest. Because of these new threats, load-bearing structures in buildings are sometimes endangered by fire to a greater extent than is currently considered by Engineers. This paper deals with the fire resistance of structural members, specifically steel components in tall buildings, where the consequence offire are most dangerous. It also analyses the optimum encasement for steel structural members on the basis of all the criteria
