Original language description
The freeze-thaw and scaling resistance of high performance concrete with added metakaolin was studied in this experimental work. In the concrete mixture ten percent by weight of cement was replaced by metakaolin. The results showed that the frost resistance of concrete with metakaolin was comparable to air-entrained concrete. However, the resistance of the tested concrete against salt-scaling was worse than the air-entrained concrete performance. In addition, interesting findings about the influence ofthe surface layer on the scaling test results are described in this paper. It was found that specimens without any surface treatment performed several times better than specimens with brushed surface.
