Experimental and numerical observations of interfacial transition zone
Original language description
Numerical evaluation of temperature and moisture permeabilities governing the heat and moisture transport across interfaces of masonry structures is presented in this paper. Introduction of these interface transition coefficients allows for modeling jumps in both temperature and moisture fields, which are usually neglected in classical models. In achieving this, two particular laboratory experiments were performed to provide distribution of temperature and moisture in a sample of the masonry wall, whichin turn served to extract the corresponding jumps and subsequently to obtain the searched interface permeabilities by matching numerical predictions and experimental results. The results show a low importance of accounting for imperfect interfaces, which may considerably simplify a homogenization process when replacing the actual heterogeneous system with equivalent effective properties.
