Tools for quantification of tunnel excavation risk
Original language description
Construction and operation of tunnels has high uncertainty levels, quantification of these uncertainties is an important information for decision making. The paper provides tools for analysis of risks associated with geotechnical conditions. A stochasticmodel enabling assessment of probability that a non-homogeneous random reference parameter crosses a given limit is introduced and applied to the prediction of thickness of decreasing rock overburden of a tunnel. Furthermore, another stochastic model for the prediction of random ground drop-offs in an undermined area, and their effects on tunnel stability is introduced. Last but not least, a procedure for quantification of risk of extraordinary events during excavation is described.
