This paper presents results of the first part of a wider research of unburned clay materials in use as a construction material. The research of a shrinkage included manufacturing and testing of 43 different sets of samples. Shrinkage is one of the most significant problems of loam in use as a construction material, especially when prefabrication is considered. Basic shrinkage properties are determined with presence of different clay minerals. As stabilization of the loam can influence its properties including shrinkage, different ways of stabilization were tested and compared.
