Original language description
Three transport tunnel projects in different stage of realization represent new development of tunnelling in India where until recent times hydro project tunnels dominated tunnelling industry in the country. Transport tunnels are being prepared and constructed in close cooperation with international experts adopting state of the art methods in Indian environment. Pir Panjal Rail Tunnel under construction on the route to connect Indian Jamu/Kashmir State with central Kashmir valley and city of Shrinagaris the first big transport tunnel under Indian Himalaya mountains. Experience from preparation and construction is presented in the paper. Close to rail tunnel, in same corridor of the Himalayan foothills four-laning of National Highway 1A includes numerous road tunnels with the longest Patnitop tunnel of 9km length.
