The Role of Geo-environmental Engineering in Brownfield Redevelopment

  • Original language description

In this paper main focus is on subsoil remediation, because the contamination of subsoil can be affected by chemical, physical or biological processes. Example of chemical remediation is focused on the method of permeable reactive barrier mainly on the problem of ground water level changes from and behind of the permeable barrier as function of reactive window char-acteristics - geometry, permeability. Physical subsoil improvement will be discussed in con-nection with the important question of utilization of spoil heaps composed mostly from clods of tertiary clays which overlay brown coal for future construction. Finally the example of con-struction on brownfields is shown. Prague, capital of the Czech Republic has many parts sig-nificantly affected inhistory by heavy industry and one of them (Sazka Arena) is discussed mostly from the foundation point of view.
