Brownfield Utilization for New Construction
Original language description
The main focus is on the most important part of the brownfield rede-velopment process, on subsoil remediation. An example of chemical remediation is focused on the method of permeable reactive barriers, mainly on the problem of ground water level changes in front of and behind the permeable barrier as a function of reactive window characteristics - geometry, permeability. Physical subsoil improvement is discussed and shown for the case of the utilization of spoil heap surfaces for new construction, especially when the spoil heaps are composed of very problematic material, of clay clods of tertiary sediments excavated during mining activity. Finally, a practical example of construction on brownfields is presented. Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, has many parts significantly affected in their history by heavy industry and one of them (Sazka Arena) is discussed, mostly from the foundation perspective.
