Currently in building industry is growing interest in using of round timber for the load-bearing structures. The use of round timber as a load-bearing element leads to major savings in material in comparison to the use of sawn timber which in the processcreates large quantities of waste. Mechanical properties of round timber are different from sawn timber. Knowledge about the behaviour of round timber is not sufficient yet. The European standards for the design of timber structures (Eurocode 5) are notincluded specific rules for the assessment of round timber and in particular their joints. The article deals with round timber joints in different types of stress. The joints are examined with respect to different variations of joints and their arrangement.
