    Currently, in building industry is growing interest in using of round timber for load-bearing structures. The use of round timber as a load-bearing element leads to major savings in material in comparison to the use of sawn timber. Mechanical propertiesof round timber are different from sawn timber . Knowledge about the behaviour of round timber is not sufficient yet. The European standards for the design of timber structures (Eurocode 5) are not included specific rules for the assessment of round timber and in particular their joints. The project aims to investigation of behaviour of specific round timber joints by means of experimental program and analytical models of selected joints. It will be also supplemented by a numerical model whose behaviourwill be calibrated on the base of the experiments. The result will be a description of the behaviour of joints derived from the models based on the method of components.
