Exploratory Galleries for Transport Tunnels
Original language description
Exploratory galleries are excavated prior to constructing tunnels with the aim of gathering geotechnical data relevant to the design for the future tunnel construction. Taking into consideration the increased project costs and extended construction timeof the tunnelling projects comprising exploratory galleries, it is necessary to discuss the issue of the benefit and suitability of these galleries for the construction of the tunnels. The following paper brings a summary of exploratory galleries realised for road and railway tunnels driven by the NATM within the 1990 - 2011 period in the Czech Republic.
