Numerical study of travelling fire in full-scale experimental building

  • Original language description

The paper describes fire test in two-floor experimental building performed in September 2011 in Czech Republic. In upper floor scenario of travelling fire was prepared. As flames were spreading across the compartment considerable temperature gradients appeared. To study travelling fire, FDS 5 is used. Numerical results of gas and beam temperatures validated by experimental measurements were compared to temperatures induced by uniform temperature conditions of zone model to highlight the level of difference between both assumptions ? travelling fire and traditional design fire models. The potential impact of the non-uniform gas temperature on structural behaviour is discussed. The fire test in middle large compartment proved that there were clear needsand benefits in using a travelling design fire as the basis for structural design.
