Methodology for the estimation of flash flood characteristics
Original language description
A new methodology for the estimations of flood characteristics of small catchments is being developed at the Department of Irrigation, Drainage and Landscape Engineering within the research project COST LD11031 ?Flood Characteristics of Small Catchments?. It is based on use of catchment properties such as slope conditions, shapes of the catchments, soil properties and land use. The development of methodology includes both the calculation of catchment descriptors and detail calculation on flash flood characteristic for a sufficient number of catchments. For all above mentioned catchment properties the descriptors are defined including the procedure of their calculation. In this case the most of work is based on the spatial data analysis and the application of GIS tools. Flash flood characteristics database is being filled by the data collected from measured profiles and frequency analysis as well as by the detail hydrologic modelling. This paper presents the development of the methodolo
