This paper describes problems of integral structures, used especially for short- and mediumspan bridges. Their main advantages are the increase of durability and also decrease of the whole-life costs of the bridge due to decrease of costs needed for maintenance and repairs. On the other hand, one of the main remaining problems is the arrangement of transition areas and their interaction with the bridge structure.
