Original language description

The paper deals with the substitution of wooden material by composites in the production of rail supports (sleepers and bridge sleepers) in the railway superstructure. Laboratory tests for the evaluation of the properties and behavior of composites for producing railway supports are not yet included in European Standards. In this paper a set of laboratory tests was proposed for the purpose of assessing the suitability of composites for the manufacturing of railway supports. The outcome includes a draftof the set of laboratory tests which contains the description of measured properties, technical standards and the values of properties achieved for composites used for manufacturing railway supports abroad.
