Original language description
Integral bridges are popular because of decreased maintenance needs thanks to the absence of expansion joints and bridge bearings. On the other hand, arrangement of transition zones and the soil-structure interaction must be carefully solved. This paperis focused on the influence of the end abutments rigidity of integral bridges on their performance. This aspect is very important for longitudinal displacements at the ends of the structure, which affect behaviour and durability of integral bridges as awhole. On the other hand, rigidity of supports influences also internal forces in the structure and its dimensions (e.g. consumption of reinforcement). Because of that, problems related to thermal changes and to creep and shrinkage of concrete have to besolved too.
