Application of the finite element method in problems of physical geodesy
Result description
Geopotential model of the Earth is currently calculated using the Stokes coefficients. The objective of this work is to design an alternative method of calculating the potential, which would be based on numerical solution of Laplace equation using the finite element method. The success of the proposed method will be demonstrated on several test problems which will be solved using the isoparametric element with trilinear shape functions.
