Numerical solution of the geodetic boundary value problem using the finite element method
Original language description
Geopotential model of the Earth is usually calculated using the Stokes coefficients. The objective of this work is to design an alternative method of calculating the potential, which is based on the finite element method. For the purpose of numerical solution a computa- tional algorithm was designed and was subsequently implemented in the program in C ++. The success of the proposed method is demonstrated on several test problems, that are dis- cretized using isoparametric finite element with trilinearshape functions. After evaluating the results, the finite element method was found to be a suitable method for solving the geodetic boundary value problem. In future, we extend the calculation for the entire planet Earth and for the use of more complex areas such as reference ellipsoid.
