Testing Pulse Distance Meters of Total Stations Topcon GPT-7501 Over Short Distances

  • Original language description

The paper deals with testing the pulse distance meters of total station Topcon GPT-7501. The given standard deviation of angle measurement is 0.3 mgon and standard deviation of distance measurement is 2 mm. At the Department of Special Geodesy Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague was tested the six same instruments from a single production series. Distance meters have been tested on the baseline with the interferometer to determine the detailed course of the distance measurement errors. The length of the baseline is 24 m. Distance meters have been also tested at the absolute pillar baseline for determining the absolute systematic errors. Pillar baseline is 38 m length and consists of 16 pillars. The measurement was carried out on prisms and reflective foils. For all tested instruments were determined similar course of errors. The detailed course of the errors in the distance interval 2 m to 24 m show that even pulse distance meters are affected by harmonic influences whose amplitude decreases with increasing distance. The maximum difference between the minimum and maximum size of error is 2.5 mm. The results show that the main difference between the distance meters is in size of the additive constant error. The same additive constant set in each instrument could cause difference of distances up to 5 mm. The results could be used in correction function for distance meter to obtain a more accurate measurement of distance. The results showed the need of analyze each instrument individually, even if it is from one production series.
