TC6: Report: Probabilistic life prediction of the thrust chamber
Original language description
The overall aim of TC6 presented in this report is to show a practical utilization of all methods developed during the RALP project. TC1 dealt with the identification of posterior Probability Density Functions (PDFs) of material parameters from various experiments. Prescribed PDFs of boundary conditions define an uncertainties, which are propagated through the Finite Element Model (FEM) of the thrust chamber in order to obtain the probability distribution of the model response. A large number of simulations that has to be performed in probabilistic studies results in long computational times and/or in high costs for parallel licenses. Therefore, a portation of the current continuum damage model from the ANSYS USERMAT code to a material interface of a license-free Finite Element code has been conducted in TC3. Although the license-free Finite Element code enables utilization any number of processors, still the FEM needs an enormous computational resources. Therefore, the approximation of the FEM output is proposed based on the optimal Design of Experiments (DoE) connected with several meta-models as proposed and tested within TC2. The uncertainties are then sampled using Monte Carlo sampling (MCS) in order to sample the PDFs of model response components and compute the structural life PDF in Task TC5. Since one-shot DoE is not sufficient for time-dependent reliability computations, an updating procedure has been proposed in TC6. Therein has been also tested on a synthetic function that provides fast but reasonable substitute for the full FEM model.
