Investigation into FRP perfobond rib shear connector

  • Original language description

FRP (fibre-reinforced polymer) is a material with comparable strength properties to steel but it is much lighter - its weight is only about 20-30% of steel weight depending on the type of used polymer and fibres. High-strength combined with relatively low-weight predetermines FRP to be used in reconstructions and strengthening of structures. Due to its high durability and low life-cycle costs FRP can compete with steel solution variants even in new structures. The main disadvantage of FRP is its low modulus of elasticity. The aim of this study is to research interaction between high performance concrete and handmade FRP plate. Combination of these modern materials adds missing stiffness to the composite element. This selection of materials is especially suitable for aggressive environment. Hand lay-up process can increase suitable properties of FRP for connection by perfobond rib shear connectors. In this study, three push tests on fiber-reinforced polymer were conducted to investigate their shear behavior.
