Evaluation of EPB Shield Excavation Impact on Deformations of Surrounding Ground

The tunnel design practice requires a proper evaluation of ground surface settlements. The factors influencing the ground surface settlemets are associated with the geological conditions, the tunnel profile and depth, the construstion method, tunnel face support, etc. the paper is focused on the settlement prediction. Analytical solutions and numerical modelling can be used for this purpose. Verification of available methods is done using monitoring results of the Prague metro VA excavation. Running tunnels of this construction were excavated using two EPB shields. Available analytical methods (e.g. proposed by O´Reilly and New or Peck and Schmidt) and numerical modelling (FEM using software PLAXIS) were used to evaluate settlement of the cross-section km 14,7. Results of calculations were compared to the results of monitoring.
