Contemporary Possibilities of Low Cost Documentation and Monitoring of Small Areas Using RPAS
Original language description
RPAS (remote piloted aircraft systems) are a modern technology for non – contact mapping and monitoring small areas. RPAS can provide not only photos, but also other data types like multispectral or thermal data too (depending on sensors and type). The RPAS method of acquisition combines the benefits of close range and aerial photogrammetry. As a result, a DSM (digital surface model) and orthophoto can be derived from taken photos with a high resolution over compact and possibly less accessible areas (swamps, dumps, small natural reserves, archaeological areas and dangerous areas). Based on the type of processing software, a textured virtual model can be obtained. We used both main types of RPAS (multicopters and winged-RPAS) in practical projects since 2013. Our projects are focused in archaeology, valuable landscape and natural reserve monitoring, thermal activity of heaps and building monitoring. The article will be focused on methods and results from above mentioned projects.
