The correlation factor for determining the design resistance of fillet welds should be taken as 1,0 for all stainless steel families according to Eurocode 3 (EN 1993-1-4, 2006). The aim of this study was to investigate the value of the correlation factor for austenitic grade EN 1.4301, based on experiments. This article describes 5 uniaxial tests of stainless steel weld connections. The specimen contains two plates of 15 mm thickness connected by four longitudinal fillet welds. The tests were performed with the load parallel to the weld causing only shear stress in the fillet weld. Every specimen was tested to investigate the strength, strain and failure mode. During the tests, for some specimens, deformations were measured using digital image correlation technique (DIC) to obtain the strain field around the welds and displacement between the plates.
