Effect of Sodium Hydroxide Treatment on the Microstructure and Surface Properties of Rapeseed Straw
Original language description
Particle surface treatment is often used for particleboard production to improve adhesive adhesion. Several types of surface treatment are used, e.g. water immersion, cold plasma, and alkaline treatment. A 10% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution was used in this research. Scanning electron microscopy was performed to better understand the microstructure of the treated rape straw surface and glued joints. The use of sodium hydroxide leads to surface damage and the formation of microcrystals on the surface of the straw. Treatment with a 10% NaOH solution proved to be ineffective based on the resulting mechanical properties of the manufactured particleboards.
