Investigation of hygrothermal response of novel diatomitebased plasters designed for renovation of historical buildings
Original language description
In this paper, the novel diatomite-based plasters are investigated and their suitability for applications on historical masonry is analyzed. For this reason, two mixtures with different amount of diatomite as a partial replacement of lime binder are designed and compared with a reference plaster on lime basis. Then, materials characterization is done under laboratory conditions and basic physical, hygric and thremal properties are determined. Finally, the long-term compurational simulations are performed to predict the hygrothermal response of the studied plaster under real climatic loads. The results show that application of final coatings on diatomite bases on historical masonry might be promising thanks to the enhanced hygrothermal properties as well as extending their durability, which was proved by the outcome of this research.
