Long-Period Gratings Written by a CO2 Laser in Fibers of several Types under Different Recording Conditions
Original language description
Long-period grating (LPG) written in optical fibres are attracting increasing interest for their possible applications in optical sensors and telecommunications. The gratings have mostly been written by UV lasers or CO2 lasers. The latter approach relieson the relaxation of residual stress in the fibres leading to changes of refractive index in the fiber. The positions of absorption bands in the transmission spectrum of the fiber can be varied e.g. by changes of the refractive index of the medium at the cladding boundary, which can be employed for chemical sensing. This contribution presents results on the fabrication and characterisation of LPGs written by a CO2 laser in optical fibres with different reflactive-index profiles and drawn at different conditions.
