COMPREX Pressure Exchanger
Original language description
Nowadays, new engines concepts are downsized. To ensure the same or higher power of the original engine these engines are then turbocharged or supercharged. It contributes to the better fuel economy and driveability. A non-conventional type of supercharging uses pressure waves in the engine exhaust system. In so called COMPREX pressure exchanger the exhaust gas compresses the fresh air direct without any separation between both gasses. In the paper the principle of the pressure exchanger is introduced on basis of the method of characteristics and shock wave theory. A computational 1-D model connected to the engine and its results are shown in comparison with the shock wave model of pressure exchanger. Some specific pressure exchanger behavior demonstrated by the 1-D model is described as well.
