*Two-Stroke Diesel Engine Exhaust Tuning for Efficient Scavenging
Original language description
*The main objective of this work is downsized two-stroke two cylinder diesel engine exhaust tuning using 1-D simulation tool. Supercharger and turbocharger are used for ensuring engine sufficient boost pressure needed for achieving targeting engine parameters. The motivation for this study is to minimize the demand of engine power needed for driving the supercharger and consequently improve engine BSFC. Moreover, DPF and DOC are placed upstream the turbine in this case. These two devices increase enginebackpressure and serve as a wall which reflects pressure waves of exhaust gases propagating from each cylinder. The main goal of this work is to damp these reflected waves during engine scavenging. Different layouts of the exhaust piping including Helmholtz resonators are introduced in this work and qualitatively compared.
