Original language description
The paper deals with the inscription of long-period gratings (LPGs) with various periods into inverted graded-index (IGI) optical fibers by a CO2 laser. The inscription method as well as the on-line measurement of the transmission spectra of the LPGs during the inscription are described. The relation between the multiple inscription and the transmission spectra of the LPGs is presented. A comparison of the LPG inscription by two different CO2 lasers under different conditions is made. Also, the influence of preheating with a low energy laser beam is discussed.
