Deviation from sphericity in HII phase

  • Original language description

The inverted hexagonal phase is one of the most important mesophases in biological membranes. We have focused on in- verted hexagonal phase from view of its geometry, specially on deviations of cross-section of cylindrical tubes from sphericity. The total free energy of inverted hexagonal phase was mini mized taking into account bending energy, assymtry of lipids and void filling energy. To take into account deviations from sphericity, the variable radius vector was implemented. The calculation predictsshapes with hexagonal symmetry that are in less energy state than the precise spherical shape. Results are in good accordance with experiment.
