Original language description
We have proposed the mathematical description of deformation energy of inverted hexagonal phase in biomembranes, which is one of the most important mesophases in biological membranes. Our proposed deformation energy is given by summation of bending energy (Kralj - Iglic et al. 2006) and contact energy, that is derived from stretching of phospholipids hydroxycarbon chains, which is evoked by an effort to minimize 'voids' between cylinders in hexagonal lattice. The expression of deformation energy of inverted hexagonal phase can help us to find the optimal geometry, afford us to compare the energy with another phases such as lamellar phase or bring out more about inverted hexagonal phase.
