Simulation of Gas Exhaustion from a Combustion Chamber of a Reciprocating Engine
Original language description
The document deals with a numerical simulation of a flow leaving the combustion chamber of a four-stroke engine. The problem has been solved with an in-house numerical code, based on finite volume method. The flow model is simplified to an ideal gas, neglecting all the flow chemistry. The flow has been described by a set of Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations, together with equations of a turbulence model. The AUSM+up scheme has been used. Spatial accuracy of the scheme has been improved by the use of linear reconstruction with a limiter. Contours of both the valve and the exhaust channel contain several sharp corners causing flow separations inside the domain observed. These recirculations affect strongly the flow pattern in a pipe. Several geometrical configurations of the exhaust pipe have been tested, in order to study the influence of geometry detailness. The contribution presents several actual results revealing the flow structure.
