Huxley's vs. Hill's muscle models: determination of muscle forces during movement

  • Original language description

The aim of this work is to determine muscle forces of two antagonistic muscles of the lower extremity (m. gluteus maximus inferior, m. iliacus) during pedalling. Huxley's and Hill's muscle models are used. Based on the theoretical data and computed results, both models are compared. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Fundamental differences in models lead to different applications of each model. Complexity of the Huxley's model, number of necessary input parameters and the sensitivity ofthe output on the input values predestine this model for application in detailed analysis of individual muscle undergoing a plain movement when the experimental results can be used for verifying of computed results or for specification of the input parameters. On the other hand, the Hill's model that is easier to implement can be used for a model with higher number of muscles and for a model undergoing a compact movement.
