Pattern recognition method evaluation
Original language description
Presented here is an evaluation of a method for pattern recognition. The pattern in this context is a set of points represented as a set of pairs of coordinates. The pattern is a representation of a physical object. The method takes two patterns and computes a quantity expressing the similarity between the two patterns. The method uses an invariant description of the patterns unaffected by pattern transformations (translation, rotation, noise perturbations in coordinates). The evaluation of the method is based on a test with a collection of one hundred patterns. The False Match Rate of the method was estimated. The described method can be used for object recognition tasks in cases where an object can be represented as a point pattern, i.e. stars in thesky or cells.
