Measurement Method of Feed-Rate Between a Tool and a Workpiece
Original language description
The general concern of this article is to propose a measurementmethod of feed-rate between a tool and a workpiece during a machining operation. The task of feed-rate measurement has been conducted by putting a contactless position sensor to use. The sensor measures tool-path increments in given time intervals. The time interval is being constantly generated using an algorithm embedded in a microcontroller unit. The tool-path increments are therefore measured and recorded in an exact time loop. After a simple calculation a feed-rate can be determined. To be able to measure the feed rate between a tool and a workpiece the sensor has been installed into a custom made box which was then clamped right in the machine tool's spindle. Characteristic of measured feed rate is demonstrated in an example of four axis operation using a Haas ToolRoom Mill 1 machine tool. Another example is represented by five-axis operation on MAS MCV 1000 machining center. Thanks to the undertaken measurements it's
