    Modification of the TOTEM experimental cooling plant for "warm cooling" mode

  • Original language description

    The first experiences gathered during the operation of the Roman Pot (RP) detectors of the CERN TOTEM Experiment prove the necessity of adjustments on their cooling system. Therefore the cooling circuit located at H8 in Bldg. 887 in Prévessin has been modified by specialists from the Physics Department of the CTU in Prague to allow "warm mode". The modification is based on the improved DCS system that can now adjust the evaporative pressure of the coolant up to 6 bara while maintaining refrigerant flowon level sufficient for stable and safe run of all cooling plant components. The DCS improvements were both hardware (new action elements for the pressure /PR/ and back-pressure regulation /BPR/) and software (development of new extension module for existing DCS SCADA system).
