    The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of expansion on particle size and on particle structure and to evaluate the effect of processing temperature and residence time on the biodegradability of wheat straw, a typical raw material at biogas plants. The biodegradation rate was evaluated by analysis of chemical oxygen demand, acidity and glucose content in liquid phase and by biomass organic mass loss and by changes in straw structure in solid residue.
