Internal Combustion Engine with Single Ring-Shaped Valve
Original language description
In this work, the potential of an internal combustion engine with a single combined valve in the shape of a ring is assessed by means of simulation in 1-D code. The engine speed range of usable performance of such an engine is narrow due to the nature ofsupercharging. That predetermines the engine for use in electric vehicles with extended range, where the engine unit serves as a generator and can be run at almost constant speed. Such a conception entails, however, difficulties with increased engine backpressure in the exhaust which decreases otherwise favorable performance. The engine is compared with the classical one with the four-valve cylinder head.
