Roller Rig Tests with Active Stabilization of a Two-Axle Bogie

  • Original language description

Active control of a wheelset guidance is regarded as a promising solution for railway vehicles of the future. Although computational simulations, published in a number of studies, show that active wheelset guidance offers superior properties in comparison with a conventional, passive design, on track tests of such a system on vehicles are rather rare. On the other hand on a roller rig it is possible to test railway vehicle running dynamics, and thus verify and demonstrate the results of computer simulations, without too high costs and safety risks associated with on track tests. Therefore a scaled experimental railway bogie that is capable of implementing a wide range of wheelset guidance active control approaches was designed, built and implemented on a roller rig at the Czech Technical University in Prague. As a functional test of this bogie, experiments aimed at hunting motion stabilisation using an active yaw damping method were carried out. Those experiments confirmed the expected functionality and performance of a newly developed experimental bogie and also demonstrated the possibility of stabilizing a two-axle railway bogie by an active yaw damping method. The newly developed bogie is ready for future roller rig experiments with an active wheelset guidance.
