On the Unsteady Aerodynamics of a High-Speed Turbine with Squealer Blade Tips

  • Original language description

Thiswork presents a combined experimental and numerical assessment of the time-resolved flow field of an HP turbine stage mounting engine-representative squealer rotor tip profiles. The investigation focuses on the aerodynamic characterization of the stage outlet flow, strongly modulated by periodic flow phenomena originated by the interaction between blade rows. The experimental flow analysis is performed at full engine similarity in the rotating turbine facility of the von Karman Institute. High time and space resolution measurements provide a high fidelity data-set for the validation of time-resolved numerical computations. The combined approach provides a detailed analysis of the vane-rotor interactions and of the modulation of the stage outlet flow field.
