Optimization of a Trough Air Distributor for an Industrial Bubbling Fluidized Bed Boiler

  • Original language description

This paper discusses solution of a problem with excessive high bed temperature that appeared after increasing the power load of an industrial fluidized bed boiler from 6 to 8 MW that was made without any optimization of combustion system. This resulted in bed temperatures reaching up to 1100°C. Such high temperatures caused problems with increased NOx and SO2 emissions and also operation problems with fluidized bed agglomeration. Since the primary air fan was at its upper design limit, the main focus was to optimize the pressure drop of the trough air distributor by using adjustable isobaric air nozzles with control cones, allowing increase of the bed height. The laboratory experiments with analysis of current distributor set-up and adjusting the pressure drop of the nozzles are discussed in the paper. The pressure drop of the whole distributor was finally decreased by about 1.7 kPa, which means a possibility to increase the height of the fluidized bed by about 20 cm. This helped to decrease the volumetric thermal power load and subsequently decrease the fluidized bed temperatures.
