Improving properties of titanium alloy used for modern hip prosthesis
Original language description
Hip replacement is a surgical procedure in which a hip joint is replaced by a prosthetic implant, that is, a hip prosthesis. Hip replacement is currently one of the most common orthopaedic operations, although patient satisfaction short- and long-term varies widely. It is very important to investigate and improve hip replacement materials. One of the possible methods is the laser treatment of the material using the Laser Shock Peening (LSP) as promising method to increase/prolong life time of hip-joint implant over patient life-time expectation. LSP hardens the material and thus its resistance in parts prone to cracking is improved.
