    2019 Output A base single cylinder research engine was manufactured, assembled and delivered by Skoda Auto a.s. to CTU. A CFD and FEM thermal analysis of the cylinder head have been performed. Optimized cooling gallery was designed. Currently, the engine installation in the test cell is being finalized. The engine will be equipped with the multiple fuels injection to enable tests and optimizations of conventional and alternative fuels. Hardware and software for engine control unit is being finalized. All information for the ECU low level software template is prepared. Connectors and wiring harness have been ordered. The next step is a preparation of the first design of the ECU software and the software calibration will follow. 2020 Output A base design of the scavenged pre-chamber has been finalized. This design allows a simple P-C installation into the base cylinder head with minor modifications. The new cylinder head for optimized fuel supply and P-C cooling is being manufactured. The SI base variant of a single cylinder research engine was commissioned. All sensors and actuators were wired to the Engine Control Unit (ECU). Initial parameterization of the control algorithm was then performed. The research test procedures and outputs are fully compatible with the routines at the industrial partner. Base SI engine mapping was performed with various fuels (petrol BA95, CNG and hydrogen). Two passive pre-chambers (P-C) were manufactured. A stainless steel one, able to withstand high thermal load. The second one was made of copper alloy (CuCr1Zr) with high thermal conductivity. Passive P-C with integrated temperature sensor was implemented in the original SI cylinder head and P-C engine mapping was carried out with petrol and CNG as fuels. Lean operation limits at low and high loads were mapped experimentally. CTU designed and manufactured new active pre-chamber. Škoda Auto designed, manufactured and assembled the completely new cylinder head for the active P-C.

    Optimization of the functional sample will be realized in the near future. New multicylinder functional sample has to be designed, built and tested and implemented to the vehicle. Based on the vehicle test results the industial partner will decide the implementation in a serial production andapplication market.
